Published: SOUTH WAVERLY — Much to the relief of the numerous residents who showed up to protest it, a proposed wastewater treatment plant that would have been located at the former Whipple’s Lumber building was effectively shot down by the South Waverly Borough Council during a special meeting Wednesday night.
An unidentified company from Ohio approached the borough’s planning commission recently to put forth the idea of constructing a facility at the corner of Elmira and Loder streets that would clean the contaminated water recovered from the hydraulic fracturing process used to drill natural gas wells.
Residents’ concerns were immediate, numerous, and loud.

Some worried that the light and noise coming from a 24-hour operation would be disruptive to everyone who lives in the area.
Some worried that the tanker truck traffic to and from the plant would further destroy the borough’s already crumbling roads.
Some worried that the frac water, which contains dozens of toxic chemicals, would contaminate the area and slowly poison those who come in contact with the groundwater.
DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY!

WOW! Good for the citizens AND Council of South Waverly. The ignorant, money grubbing Borough Council of Blossburg, PA could learn a few things from these South Waverly folks. All the Blossburg council seems concerned with are "all of the jobs" that (will never) come with the water treatment plant.
