  1. Auburn has a population of 1,816 (2000 census) and a median income of $35,000 (probably less now). Into this small, rural town come 1800 gas drillers (I would call them invaders), tearing up the roads, and bringing toxic chemicals with them, chemicals which will stay there forever in the environment. Undoubtedly, trees will be felled, plants will shrivel up and die, and animals will become sick and be unable to reproduce. Some of Gerri's fellow townspeople want her to "be quiet." I hope Gerri speaks her mind every chance she gets. She is thinking about the next generation and what will be left for them. We must all share in her concern. She once lived in Texas and worked for a drilling company. She knows what she is talking about.
